U.S. President Donald Trump held an event at the White House to announce the reinstatement of the “Presidential Fitness Award,” a move aimed at bringing back the school-based physical fitness testing program that had been discontinued during former President Barack Obama’s administration.
The White House lawn hosted students and athletes for the occasion, where Trump was seen leading a group of teenagers through his well-known rally dance, performed to the tune of “Macho Man.”
After the ceremony, Trump also took part in a lighthearted golf session on a temporary putting green set up on the South Lawn of the White House, joined by professional golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Gary Player.
However, the trio struggled with their attempts, as Trump missed three consecutive putts, followed by similar misses from both golfers.
Earlier, Trump signed an order officially restoring the Presidential Fitness Test, stating that the coming years would mark a “golden age of sports” in the United States.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also attended the event, saying the renewed program would help encourage American youth to improve their physical fitness and strengthen their readiness for potential military service in the future.
The new directive instructs the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition to develop school-based programs that encourage physical activity, along with new standards for the Presidential Fitness Award.
