Meta is developing a highly specialized artificial intelligence assistant capable of handling everyday tasks for billions of users, in a move that reflects the company’s accelerating investment in the sector despite growing investor scrutiny over its AI spending, according to the Financial Times.

According to the report, the company is building “agentic AI” tools, including an advanced digital assistant powered by its new Muse Spark AI model, which is currently being tested internally by a group of employees.

Meta aims to create a system similar to OpenClaw, developed by OpenAI, which can connect multiple software and hardware tools and learn from data with minimal human intervention compared to traditional chatbot systems.

In a related development, The Information reported that Meta is also training an internal AI agent codenamed “Hatch,” inspired by OpenClaw, with internal testing expected to conclude by the end of June.

The company is also planning to integrate a standalone AI-powered shopping tool into Instagram, with a target launch before the fourth quarter of this year, according to the same source.

These developments come as the parent company of Facebook and Instagram has raised its annual capital expenditure forecasts, signaling plans to inject billions of additional dollars into AI infrastructure, despite potential pressure linked to declining popularity of social media platforms among younger users worldwide.
