The passing of Egyptian artist Hany Shaker has once again highlighted artistic dreams that never came true, most notably his wish to return to acting through a television drama project after years away from the screen, focusing solely on his singing career.

The late artist had previously spoken, during his participation in the Cairo International Film Festival, about his passion for returning to drama, emphasizing that he was no longer interested in taking part in new film experiences. Instead, he was searching for a series with a unique story and a strong script worthy of his artistic comeback.

Hany Shaker explained at the time that modern films no longer offered the romantic musical style he loved and became known for throughout his career, which made him lean more toward television drama, especially with a project being developed by writer Ayman Salama, expressing hope that the work would soon come to light.

A shocking farewell

However, fate did not give him the chance to fulfill that wish, as he passed away on May 3, 2026, at the age of 73, following a health crisis during the recent period that led him to travel to Paris for treatment, before news of his death was announced, leaving widespread sadness among his fans and colleagues in the artistic community.

The late artist’s funeral was held on Wednesday, May 6, at Abu Shaqqa Mosque, attended by a large number of artists, media figures, and admirers. Deep sorrow overshadowed the funeral atmosphere, while several stars, including Hala Sarhan, Ehab Tawfik, Fifi Abdou, and Mostafa Kamel, attended to offer condolences and bid farewell to one of the Arab world’s most prominent singing stars.
