The eyes of Jordanian basketball fans, on Monday, will turn to Prince Hamzah Hall in the Amman Youth City, where the second round (playoffs) of the men’s Premier Basketball League will begin.

This stage is considered “decisive” in determining the shape of the champion, as it will result in only four teams advancing to the semi-finals, amid expectations of fierce competition due to the close technical levels shown in the first stage.

The Jordan Basketball Federation has issued an intensive schedule for this phase, which will continue until the end of March.

Based on the teams’ standings in the first round, the matchups are as follows:

• Al-Ahli Amman (leader) vs Shabab Bushra (eighth): Al-Ahli aims to confirm its absolute dominance, while Shabab Bushra hopes to cause a major upset.

• Al-Faisaly SC (runner-up) vs Al-Ashrafieh (seventh): Al-Faisaly enters the match with high morale after recently winning the 2026 Jordan Cup for the first time in its history.

• Al-Jubeiha (third) vs Al-Jaleel (sixth): A balanced matchup characterized by speed and competitiveness.

• Al-Wehdat SC (fourth) vs Al-Inglizi (fifth): This is considered the strongest match in this round due to the close point standings and the traditional rivalry between the two teams.

Tournament format: “Two wins” secure qualification

This round is played in a best-of-three series, where each pair of teams meets in up to three matches. The team that achieves two victories qualifies directly to the semi-finals (Final Four).

This system gives teams the opportunity to recover in case of an initial loss, but it also places significant physical and mental pressure on players and coaching staff.

Title ambitions and boosting fan attendance

This stage comes after an international break that allowed the national team to prepare for the Asian qualifiers.

Through this tournament, the Federation aims to restore the appeal of Jordanian basketball by attracting fans, launching initiatives such as the “Family Ticket” to ensure strong family attendance in the stands.

With the opening whistle, the open race toward the coveted title begins in an exceptional season that witnessed the withdrawal of historic powerhouses such as Al-Ahli and Al-Orthodoxi, opening the door for new forces to dominate Jordanian basketball.
