WhatsApp has begun gradually supporting voice and video calls on its web version, starting with individual chats for users enrolled in the beta program.

This update allows users to make calls directly from their browser without installing the desktop app.

Last month, the company announced it was developing group calling on the web, which will support both voice and video calls for up to 32 participants, along with features like call links and scheduled calls.

The group calling feature is still under development to ensure a smooth experience before the official launch.

In this first phase, users can start one-on-one calls directly from a chat, making it easier to quickly connect with friends, family, and colleagues.

Screen sharing is also available during video calls, allowing users to present documents or slides directly from the browser while keeping information private.

This update is especially good news for Linux users, who previously lacked an official desktop app, as they can now fully use WhatsApp for voice and video calls directly from the browser.

Some Windows users who haven’t used the new hybrid app will also benefit.

The feature is currently available to beta testers on WhatsApp Web and will gradually roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
