A man named Skip Boyce, 49, has embarked on a unique challenge, locking himself completely in a single room of his home for 365 consecutive days to improve his physical and mental well-being.
Alongside staying in the room, he streams live 24/7 on YouTube and Discord, documenting every detail of his "Isolation Year."
Boyce explained that the room is fully equipped with all his basic needs, including a bathroom and closets, and the aim of this experiment is to reset his health habits, discipline, and focus, away from daily distractions.
In an Instagram post a day before starting the challenge, he wrote: "The Isolation Year is a reset. For one full year, I will remove all distractions to rebuild the basics: my health, discipline, focus, and habits."
He emphasized that he will not distance himself from his family or work, but has decided to eliminate optional activities such as endless scrolling, entertainment, and social commitments that do not add value.
The goal, he clarified, is not to seek thrill or prove anything, but to create a structured life where discipline becomes unavoidable.
Boyce’s challenge includes several rules, such as no visitors in the room, regular exercise to lose weight and build strength, and improving eating habits by tracking everything he consumes to understand what helps or harms him.
He may leave the room only in case of a medical emergency, fire, any building safety threat, or if authorities demand it. Boyce confirmed that the "Isolation Year" is not staged content or acting, but a genuine experiment, and he will disclose any mistakes or rule violations during the live stream.
Boyce shares photos and videos of his daily life on Instagram under @TheIsolationYear, emphasizing that the live stream shows everything from good to bad days, successes, and failures, with no edits or highlights.
He said: "It won't be easy. It won't be pretty. And it won't be censored. You will see everything in real time."
Responding to criticism, he added: "Many think this is just content, but it isn’t. If you watch because it’s interesting or motivating — great, but the real purpose of the Isolation Year is participation and practical experience."
