Croatian authorities arrested a woman from Utah who claimed “the end of the world is near,” after she was accused of taking her four children out of the country in violation of a custody order, authorities said.
Authorities stated that Alicia Seymour, 35, had previously faced four charges in December for illegal interference with custody by taking the children out of the state despite not having custody rights.
The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed via email that Seymour was arrested earlier this month and is being held on charges of violating child rights.
The children are being held in temporary care facilities in Croatia, while their former father, Kindal Seymour, seeks to have them returned to the United States.
He explained that the three older children are his, and he holds legal guardianship for the youngest child, who is not his.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sam Gill noted that his office is exploring options to cooperate with federal authorities to extradite Seymour to the U.S.
No statements were available from Seymour during her detention in Croatia, and Utah court records do not list an attorney representing her.
Reports indicated that Alicia posted TikTok videos last year discussing end-of-the-world dreams and urging people to prepare, according to her ex-husband.
In one video, she spoke of an electromagnetic pulse attack that would cause planes to fall, computers to stop, and loss of access to food, water, and heating.
Seymour and her children were last seen in the U.S. in late November and were staying with an American family in Croatia who initially did not know they were wanted, according to their father.
Kindal Seymour said one of the children informed the host family, which led to their mother’s arrest on January 16.
The FBI had received reports indicating that Seymour and her children, aged 3 to 11, were in Croatia after leaving their Salt Lake City home in late November.
Court documents show that Seymour had planned to travel abroad following discussions about the “end of the world.”
Police said their officers went to Seymour’s residence on December 2 after reports from friends and colleagues that they could not reach her, finding the apartment open and empty, with a notebook containing plans to destroy documents, dispose of phones, and take passports.
Her car was found at Salt Lake City International Airport, and videos confirmed the family boarding a flight to Europe on November 29.
According to court records, Seymour separated from the father of her youngest child in 2024 and from Kindal Seymour in 2021.
