Social media platforms erupted on Thursday over a tragedy that claimed the life of a government employee in the capital, Baghdad, after he fell from the third floor while carrying out his duty during a campaign to arrest foreigners violating the residency law.
The tragic incident took place in the Al-Sadr City, east of Baghdad, where the employee was performing his duty in a security campaign aimed at enforcing the arrest of residency law violators.
Widespread shock An official source told an Iraqi newspaper that the employee died while attempting to complete his mission, after falling from the top of the third floor of a building, which caused widespread shock among his colleagues and the public.
Social media platforms witnessed a wave of comments and solidarity with the victim, amid calls to review safety measures during security campaigns to protect the lives of field workers.
It is worth noting that security authorities have previously conducted several similar campaigns to arrest foreigners violating residency law No. 76 of 2017, which regulates the entry, stay, and exit of foreigners in Iraq and imposes strict penalties on violators, while authorities continue to take legal actions against those who break the law.
