  • Six children left unattended in private pool
  • Four year old girl dies drowning

Police investigations revealed that six children were left unsupervised in a private athletic club pool in Oakland, USA, resulting in the drowning of a 4-year-old girl.

When deputies arrived at the club, two men and a woman were performing CPR on the child before officers took over until firefighters arrived and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators found that two women had brought six children, aged 4 to 12, to the pool, placed several flotation devices in the water, and then went to the club’s restaurant to order food and drinks.

The children were left unattended for approximately 35 minutes, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The girl’s sister removed her from the pool while the women remained in the restaurant area.

The pool depth ranged between 90 and 150 cm. Investigators noted pool toys and noodles but no life preservers, with two signs indicating that children under 16 are not allowed to swim without adult supervision.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, “At least one adult should be responsible for supervising any children’s swimming activity. This tragic incident could have been easily prevented.”

He added, “It’s not enough for an adult to be present in the area—they must be actively watching the children in the pool.”

According to the CDC, about 4,000 people die from drowning annually in the U.S., making it the leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 4.

The investigation continues and will be submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for further legal action.
