  • Decision to jail father for 35 years after attempting to kill his baby daughter
  • The baby will require lifelong care following the tragic incident

Rhydian Lynne Rhys Jamieson, 28, known as Rhys, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after attempting to kill his infant daughter in the village of Cwm Cou, UK, in January 2025, leaving the child with "catastrophic" injuries.

The baby, whose name is legally withheld, was found lying face down under a duvet.

Jamieson sent text messages to the mother saying, "I’m sorry for what I’ve done," and to friends: "I’m scared. I think I’ve killed someone," and "I’m going to be on the news."

He had already admitted the act and told the court he lost control and threw the baby at a television. After the messages, the family discovered what had happened and contacted the police.

The court heard the baby suffered a head wound and facial bruising, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a CT scan showed brain bleeding, a skull fracture, and extensive bruising.

The court confirmed the child will require lifelong care and support.

In a statement, the mother said their lives had changed forever: "You are a spiteful and disgusting person. The impact of what you did will stay with my child for life. I will never understand what you were thinking. No matter the punishment, it will never be enough."

Judge Paul Thomas rejected Jamieson’s request to withdraw his plea, calling him "a coward consumed by self-pity."

"You threw the baby violently at the television in an uncontrollable rage and did not even check if she was alive. You committed the most horrific acts of cruelty and selfishness. The child suffers irreversible brain damage."

Jamieson must serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release.
