A 40-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a 44-year-old woman was found dead inside a residence in Kitchener, Canada.

Waterloo police received a call around 12:50 p.m. reporting a disturbance at a home located at the intersection of Highland Road West and Patricia Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim deceased, and another woman at the scene was taken into custody before being formally charged with first-degree murder.

Initial investigations indicate the two women knew each other, while the Major Crime Unit, Special Victims Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit are handling the case.

Police have increased their presence in the area to canvass for witnesses and gather additional information.
