  • Search for MH370 in new Indian Ocean area ends without finding debris

The latest search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has concluded without locating any wreckage.

The operation focused on a newly identified area on the ocean floor and was carried out by marine robotics company Ocean Infinity under a “no find, no fee” agreement with the Malaysian government.

The Boeing 777 had departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport en route to Beijing International Airport with 239 passengers and crew on board.

Twelve years after the aircraft vanished, investigators still do not know the confirmed location of the wreckage.

Malaysia’s transport ministry said the final search covered more than 7,500 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean, as part of a wider 15,000-square-kilometer plan believed to contain clues to the plane’s whereabouts.

Under the terms of the contract, Ocean Infinity would be paid only if the team successfully located debris.

The search included two operational phases: the first from 25–28 March 2025, and the second from 31 December 2025 to 23 January 2026. Over a total of 28 working days, the team surveyed approximately 7,571 square kilometers of seabed using autonomous underwater systems.

Officials noted that Ocean Infinity had also conducted preliminary surveys in adjacent areas before the official contract began, to refine the search plan and improve the accuracy of results.
