Death Takes Away Director Samah Abdel Aziz

The Egyptian artistic community was shocked on Thursday morning by the passing of the renowned director Samah Abdel Aziz, one of the most prominent figures in the world of Egyptian cinema and television, at the age of 49 after a brief battle with illness.
The President of the Egyptian Actors’ Syndicate, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, announced the news of his death on his official Instagram account, saying: “Condolences to all, the great director Samah Abdel Aziz has passed away. The funeral will be held after Asr prayer at the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed City.”
Deterioration of Health
The late director had been admitted several days ago to a private hospital in 6th of October City following a sudden health crisis that required intensive care. Although his condition had recently improved and he was able to comprehend and communicate, his health sharply declined early Thursday morning, leading to his death, which caused shock and sorrow among colleagues and fans alike.
On Wednesday evening, the Actors’ Syndicate president denied reports that Abdel Aziz had fallen into a coma, confirming that he was under medical supervision and that his condition was “under control,” in statements that temporarily reassured his audience, before the situation changed dramatically the following morning with the announcement of his passing.
Samah Abdel Aziz was considered one of the leading directors of the new generation, having produced successful works in cinema and television, most notably:

- The film “The Wedding” (2009)
- The film “The Big Night” (2015)
- The television drama “Women’s Prison” (2014)
- The series “Ramadan Kareem” (2017)
He also collaborated with many of the top stars in the artistic scene, known for his realistic style and boldness in addressing social issues.
His passing represents a great loss to Egyptian and Arab art, with numerous artists and creators mourning their late colleague with heartfelt words, recalling his works that will remain immortal in viewers’ memories.
