The Saifiya Well in Qastal, south of the capital, Amman, suffers from clear neglect, despite being one of the richest sources of hot mineral water in Jordan, with temperatures reaching 77°C.
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation drilled the well about 10 years ago.
The intention was to invest in the site as a tourist resort, due to the properties of the hot mineral water from the well and its proximity to Queen Alia International Airport. The water would also be used for agricultural purposes after use.
The surprise was that the government, represented by the Ministries of Water and Irrigation and Tourism and Investment, decided to close the well, citing the high costs of operating it. However, water experts insist that this is inaccurate.
