- Bites led to toe amputation and legal claims against the complex
A woman from the U.S. state of Florida filed a lawsuit against her former apartment complex, saying she experienced serious health problems due to repeated spider bites that eventually led to the amputation of some of her toes.
Patricia Shields said spiders were found in the bathroom of her old apartment in Largo, west of Tampa, and insisted that the repeated bites made it necessary to amputate some of her toes.
Shields added in the lawsuit against the complex that she reported the issue to management, but they did not provide any assistance.
She said, “They ignored the matter or gave me empty promises. And when I finally asked to end my lease by mutual agreement, they refused.”
According to court documents, the apartment complex denies all allegations against it and insists it is not responsible for the injuries or damages Shields claims to have suffered.
Shields, who lives on early disability and benefits from a social housing program, explained that her options were limited.
She said, “All I want is for this matter to be settled and to return to my normal life.”
