Snow Buries a Mother and Her Two Children Near Their Home Garden Intense Efforts and Continuous Work to Rescue Them
Rescue teams managed to pull a mother and her two children out from under the heavy snow in the "Çatak" area of Van Province in eastern Anatolia, Turkey, which overlooks the country’s largest lakes.
According to local press reports, a severe snowstorm had buried the mother and her children near their home garden. The family had left the house during the peak of the bad weather for reasons that remain "unknown" so far.
The rescue teams worked continuously and rapidly until they were able to bring the mother and her children out safely and transfer them immediately to the hospital to receive necessary medical care.
Severe Snowstorms
At the beginning of 2026, Turkey is witnessing a wave of snowstorms described as "the strongest in decades," with snow accumulating at record heights and affecting several major cities. In some areas, snow reached up to 1.5 meters after four consecutive days of heavy snowfall, while the streets of Istanbul, Ankara, and Bursa were covered in white with the start of the new year.
Meteorological authorities expect a sudden drop in temperatures of up to 10°C. The storm has led to the suspension of classes in many provinces and the cancellation of some flights.
