  • Rassel Jawar travels to Australia to meet his brother
  • Big family celebration marks the siblings’ reunion at Christmas

In an emotional moment, 64-year-old Rassel Jawar traveled from South Wales to Brisbane, Australia, to meet his older brother Peter, 69, in a reunion he described as “completely natural” and “full of joy.”

The meeting was marked by a large family celebration in Brisbane on Christmas Day.

Both brothers were born in London to Ray and Jill; Peter was born when their mother was 15, while Rassel was born a few years later. They also had a sister, Jackie, who passed away.

Peter lived most of his life in Australia without knowing the truth about his biological family, until his sister revealed the adoption later. His granddaughter in Australia traced Rassel in Wales and conducted DNA tests to confirm the relationship.

Rassel revealed that he had known about a sibling being adopted during his adolescence, but his mother never discussed it directly. She told him before her death in 2007 that she had something to tell him, but never had the chance to reveal Peter’s existence.

He described the moment he met his brother in the hallway of his Brisbane home as touching, noting the strong resemblance between them from the very first glance and the instant sense of connection that formed despite their lives having been completely separate on opposite sides of the world.

The family celebration included 17 participants, and Rassel said the reunion came at a special time, coinciding with the 85th birthday of their mother. He confirmed that the meeting completely changed his life and that he felt immense happiness sharing Christmas with his brother for the first time.
