A routine morning walk for an elderly woman in Bursa, Turkey, turned into a critical event after her early warning helped prevent a disaster that could have endangered 31 people.
Signs of imminent collapse appeared on a retaining wall and adjacent walkway in the Nilüfer district, behind the “Moulana” Mosque and near a Quran study center.
Thanks to the early alert, the area was evacuated before anyone was harmed.
According to reports, the woman noticed cracks and unusual shifts in the wall and walkway during her walk and immediately informed authorities. Police, fire, and municipal teams responded quickly, closing the road and assessing the situation.
Safety measures included evacuating the Quran study center, which had 31 people, including 16 children aged 4–6 and 15 female staff members, and temporarily closing the mosque.
About ten hours later, the wall and walkway collapsed in the isolated area, causing significant property damage to the study center and parts of the mosque, but no injuries.
Authorities confirmed that no one was trapped under the debris. Residents and mosque management praised the woman’s vigilance and the rapid response, noting that her early warning prevented a potential tragedy.
