A woman in Kerala, India, allegedly killed her 75-year-old mother to obtain a gold chain to support her fiancé financially.

According to Indian media, the missing chain became the key evidence that revealed the perpetrators.

The victim, Thankamani, was found dead in a plot behind her home in Mundoor.

Initially, locals assumed she had fallen accidentally due to visible facial injuries, and police also considered the possibility of an accident—until the autopsy confirmed homicide.

During the investigation, neighbors told police that Thankamani never removed her gold chain, raising immediate suspicion and leading officers to question her daughter, Sandhya, who had been living with her after separating from her first husband.

Investigators revealed that Sandhya, engaged to a man named Nithin from the same neighborhood, intended to give her mother’s gold chain to him for financial support.

Sandhya reportedly admitted during questioning that an argument broke out when her mother refused to hand over the chain.

The confrontation escalated physically, with Sandhya allegedly grabbing her mother’s neck and pushing her, causing her to fall and hit her head, resulting in immediate death.

Police added that Sandhya and Nithin tried to stage the incident as an accident, feigning ignorance when the body was found. However, the autopsy results and the missing chain exposed their deception.

Both Sandhya and Nithin have been arrested, and authorities are currently investigating the crime and the couple’s financial dealings.
