Authorities in McLennan County, Texas, have opened an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of February 1, leaving one brother dead and the other arrested for his murder.
According to officials, the incident took place around 1:40 a.m. in the Gholson area, where a fight broke out between the two brothers. During the altercation, one brother drew a firearm and shot his sibling.
Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the injured brother died on site.
Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested Cory James Mayo on a murder charge.
Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the altercation.
Sheriff Parnell McNamara said in a statement: "This is an extremely tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected. We recognize the impact such events have on loved ones and the community as a whole."
The sheriff’s office confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that additional details will be limited to protect the integrity of the investigation.
