An Indian man claimed on Reddit that an AI-powered chatbot helped him identify the cause of a decades-long medical condition affecting his 62-year-old uncle, despite years of ongoing medical checkups and tests, according to NDTV.

The man explained that his uncle suffered from kidney failure requiring thrice-weekly dialysis, alongside diabetes, high blood pressure, and a stroke six years earlier.

Despite these serious health issues, his uncle had been experiencing a puzzling symptom that doctors could not explain: severe migraines that occurred only when lying down to sleep. He had consulted neurologists and kidney specialists and undergone comprehensive tests, including MRI scans and blood work, without a diagnosis.

According to the man, he gathered all medical records and detailed the symptoms to the AI chatbot, Claude, which began analyzing the information over several days. He observed that the system identified connections that had previously been overlooked, highlighting the positional nature of the headaches that appeared exclusively when lying down.

The chatbot reportedly pointed him to research linking dialysis patients with sleep-related breathing issues, suggesting that many of these patients may suffer from undiagnosed sleep apnea. Reviewing MRI results and additional observations, the man noted other long-term symptoms, including loud snoring and daytime naps over the past two decades.

Based on the AI’s suggestions, the family conducted a sleep study, which confirmed the diagnosis. Doctors subsequently began treatment using a CPAP machine to maintain airflow during sleep, and the man reported that his uncle’s headaches resolved immediately after starting therapy.
