- Temporary technical issues disrupt TikTok users in the U.S
- Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram also affected
Thousands of users reported technical problems with TikTok and Facebook on Tuesday, according to monitoring site DownDetector.
TikTok issues began around 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time and gradually spread throughout the day.
The company explained on X that a problem at an Oracle data center affected parts of the U.S. user experience, causing possible delays for content creators when posting videos.
Oracle confirmed that some of its cloud customers experienced intermittent connection timeouts, errors, and increased latency over the past four hours at its Ashburn site, and said it was working to restore services as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Facebook saw a surge in reports around 1 p.m., with users sharing screenshots showing messages that accounts were temporarily unavailable due to site issues. Others received notifications saying their accounts were temporarily restricted, with prompts to reload the page.
Users of Facebook Messenger and Instagram, both owned by Meta, also reported similar—but smaller—disruptions, peaking just after 2 p.m.
By 2:45 p.m., Facebook’s status page still reported “major disruptions” affecting ad creation, editing, delivery, and reporting, though personal account pages were not specifically mentioned. Reports began to decline shortly after.
Between 3:30 and 4 p.m., Meta announced that the outages affecting its advertising services had been resolved and that the systems were back online.
