The owner of the late artist Mohamed Abdel Motaleb’s car has decided to put this rare classic vehicle on the market for one million Egyptian pounds (approximately $20,000) with the arrival of Ramadan, according to Egyptian reports.
The website “Al-Ahram Auto” confirmed that the car is a Citroën Traction Avant, 1952 model, considered one of the most famous French sedans of the mid-20th century. The car is closely linked to Abdel Motaleb, the singer of the famous Ramadan song “Ramadan Gana” recorded in 1943.
The owner affirmed that he possesses all the documents proving the car has belonged to the late artist for over 70 years, noting that it still retains its original registration and condition, standing as a testament to a golden era in Egypt and the advanced French automotive engineering of its time, particularly the front-wheel drive system.
The site highlighted that the car was among the first to adopt a Monocoque body, where the chassis and body form a single unit, and it was also one of the earliest front-wheel drive vehicles, providing remarkable road stability compared to its competitors in the 1950s.
The car features a 1,900 cc four-cylinder engine generating 55 horsepower at 3,800 rpm, with 119 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 31 seconds, reaches a top speed of 117 km/h, and has an average fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 km from a 45-liter fuel tank.
It is worth noting that Mohamed Abdel Motaleb (1910–1980) is one of the pillars of refined Egyptian popular singing. He began his artistic journey in his hometown of Shabrakhit, Beheira Governorate, before moving to Cairo to join the Mohamed Abdel Wahab Troupe, making his cinematic debut in the film “Al-Warda Al-Bayda”, followed by a distinguished musical career that left a lasting mark on Egypt’s artistic heritage.
