U.S. authorities have arrested 77-year-old William Stevenson in connection with the death of his 64-year-old wife, Linda Stevenson, on December 28 at their Wilmington, Delaware, home.

New Castle County police confirmed that Stevenson is facing a first-degree murder charge.

The suspect remains in custody after failing to post a $500,000 cash bail.

Police responded to a domestic incident report at the family residence in Wilmington shortly after 11 p.m. on December 28, where they found Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room.

Emergency teams attempted to save her life, but their efforts failed, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of Linda Stevenson’s death or further details of the investigation.

Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975 before their divorce. Jill Biden later married former U.S. President Joe Biden in 1977.
