Atletico Madrid secured a dramatic and thrilling 2-1 victory over visiting Inter Milan on Wednesday evening at the Metropolitano Stadium, in the fifth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The win came thanks to a late, decisive goal that earned the "Rojiblancos" three vital points.

Early goal and decisive corner seal the match

The match began with an early goal for Atletico Madrid, as Julián Álvarez opened the scoring in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from an Inter Milan defender in front of goalkeeper Sommer, slotting the ball skillfully into the net.

After the first half ended with the home team leading 1-0, Inter Milan equalized in the second half through Zielinski in the 53rd minute, assisted by a brilliant pass from Ange Bony.

The score remained 1-1 under continuous pressure from both sides until stoppage time, when Uruguayan defender José Jiménez scored the decisive second goal in the third minute of added time.

The goal came from a powerful header off a corner expertly taken by star Antoine Griezmann, securing the three points for Atletico Madrid.

Inter in the top four and Atletico boosts qualification hopes

With this result, Atletico Madrid rose noticeably in the Champions League standings, moving from 6 to 9 points, enhancing their chances of direct qualification.
