"Ended His Child’s Life to “Punish His Wife

In a shocking and bizarre case that stunned Indiana, a 29-year-old man was sentenced to 92 years in prison after killing his three-month-old son and attempting to murder his wife—an act the prosecution called unimaginable in its cruelty.
According to the Tippecanoe County District Attorney’s Office, Eliásard Monius placed his infant, Jacob, in a bucket filled with household cleaning chemicals and sealed it tightly—a horrifying act described as “beyond human comprehension” by Deputy DA Elise Madigan.
Monius admitted that his twisted motive was “to punish his wife and teach her a lesson,” insisting he “felt no remorse” and that no one had the right to disrespect him.
The court convicted him of murder and attempted murder, handing down 62 years for killing his child and 30 years for attacking his wife, to be served consecutively. Judge Steve Meyer told Monius at sentencing: “You killed your child with your own hands. I cannot imagine a worse crime than this.”
The wife, who suffered severe head injuries, said Monius attacked her with a metal object before fleeing the house with the infant. Authorities later found Jacob dead inside the bucket in the kitchen. Monius was arrested the following day and admitted to assaulting his wife, but initially denied any knowledge of his child’s fate.
The bizarre and tragic nature of this crime highlights the extreme consequences of domestic violence and the harsh justice awaiting those who cross moral and legal boundaries.
