Immediately… Jordan’s “Gel Manicure” Withdrawal Decision Sparks Social Media Buzz

The decision by the Jordanian Food and Drug Authority to withdraw all “Gel Color” nail polish products, commonly known as “gel polish,” from the Jordanian market and to immediately ban their import and circulation has sparked wide reactions across social media platforms.
The decision caused frustration among some beauty salons and women who rely on this type of manicure to follow fashion trends, as it is a long-lasting cosmetic product. However, the Authority emphasized that citizens’ safety and health remain the top priority.
The decision came after it was confirmed that these products contain the banned substance TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide), which has been prohibited internationally in cosmetic products due to potential health risks.
Based on European Regulations The Authority explained that the decision is based on European Commission Regulation No. 877/2025, which came into effect on Monday, September 1, and fully bans the use of TPO in nail polish products. This step is part of the Authority’s efforts to align with the latest global health regulations and ensure the safety of products in the local market.
Immediate Measures and Inspection Campaigns The Authority announced a set of immediate measures to enforce the decision, including:
- Halting the import of all gel nail polishes containing the banned substance.
- Suspending the registration of any new products containing TPO.
- Preventing the acceptance of new registration applications for similar products.
The statement noted that field inspection teams have already begun intensive campaigns to track these products in the market and distributors’ warehouses, in preparation for collecting and completely withdrawing them from circulation.
Call for Communication and Reporting The Authority urged citizens and beauty salon service providers to immediately stop using these products and to contact the Authority promptly with any inquiries or complaints.
