The Cairo Directorate of Education has launched an urgent and expanded investigation following a widely controversial incident that sparked anger and outrage across social media platforms, after an English teacher at a school affiliated with the New Cairo Educational Administration allegedly assaulted a student in a manner considered humiliating, by cutting part of his hair using a “shaving machine” in front of his classmates during the morning assembly, as a disciplinary action outside the accepted educational framework.

According to Egyptian media reports, the crisis began when the student’s guardian posted on social media, which triggered widespread interaction and strong criticism, documenting details of what his son had experienced just minutes before entering his school exams, increasing public anger over the incident.

The father explained in his account that the teacher stopped his son—described as calm and well-behaved—in front of all students during the morning assembly, then proceeded to cut parts of his hair publicly, which caused him clear psychological shock and severe embarrassment in front of his classmates, in a scene the father considered a violation of his son’s dignity and an unacceptable overstep.

The father added that this disciplinary action, whether psychological or physical, had a negative impact on his son’s mental state, especially as he was preparing to enter the exam committee on the same day, noting that what happened clearly contradicts the school discipline regulations approved by the Ministry of Education, which prohibit humiliating or public forms of punishment.

In an official response, the Cairo Directorate of Education moved quickly, announcing the opening of an urgent and expanded investigation into the incident to determine all its details and circumstances. Sources within the directorate confirmed that a committee has been formed to investigate the facts inside the school and carefully examine the incident, in order to verify the accuracy of what has been circulated on social media.

The same sources emphasized that the Ministry of Education will not tolerate any violation that undermines students’ dignity or breaches educational regulations within schools, stressing that any proven violation will be dealt with firmly, with strict legal and administrative measures taken against those responsible.
