The goal is to provide a smoother and more comfortable user experience “WhatsApp” plans to move the Channels experience to the “Chats” tab

WhatsApp is working on developing a new feature that will bring a significant change in how channels are displayed and organized within the app. This feature will allow channels to be added to the chat list, enabling users to access them directly from the “Chats” tab through a dedicated filter, making it easier to navigate between personal conversations and channel updates in a more unified interface.

Although this feature is still under development and has not yet been officially released, it aims to provide a smoother and more comfortable user experience once fully launched, by improving access to content followed within the app.

Currently, WhatsApp allows users to follow status updates and channels through the “Updates” tab, where they can view different channels, browse their posts and updates continuously, as well as discover and search for new channels across various categories.

Upcoming update With the upcoming update, WhatsApp intends to move the Channels experience to the “Chats” tab, integrating it with a dedicated channel filter. This will allow users to quickly switch between regular chats and a separate view focused solely on channel updates, improving accessibility and organization within the app.

At the same time, the app will maintain separation between individual and group chats on one hand, and channels on the other, keeping core conversations distinct from channel content, while reorganizing the interface without affecting the overall messaging experience.

As part of this planned change, the “Updates” tab will become dedicated exclusively to status updates only, meaning channels will no longer appear there once the update is implemented, representing a restructuring of how content is displayed within the app.

It is expected that this feature will first be rolled out to a limited group of beta testers after completing necessary testing and evaluation processes, before a wider release later on, allowing users to manage and access the channels they follow more easily from within the “Chats” tab.
