- New YouTube search experiment blends video and AI to simplify finding information
- Limited trial available to Premium users in the United States
Google is testing a new feature within YouTube that uses an AI-powered assistant to deliver more interactive and detailed search results.
The feature, called “Ask YouTube,” allows users to ask complex questions and receive combined video and text results, with the option to follow up for deeper exploration.
It is currently being rolled out as an experiment for YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States, for users aged 18 and above, until mid-June.
The tool appears as a new button in the search bar, where users can type queries such as planning a three-day trip and receive tailored suggestions and related video content.
Early tests show the system can provide summaries with timestamps to relevant parts of videos, though in some cases it still displays traditional video lists.
Some inaccurate responses have also been observed in testing, raising questions about reliability.
The move is part of Google’s broader push to integrate artificial intelligence across its services, as platforms like YouTube face growing debate over AI-generated content.
