Instagram has announced a long-awaited new feature that allows users to edit their comments after posting, in a move aimed at improving user experience and addressing one of the platform’s most common issues.

Under the update, users can now edit their comments within a fixed time window of up to 15 minutes after posting, with the ability to make multiple changes during that period.

Once the time expires, no further edits will be allowed.

Edited comments will display an indicator showing that they have been modified, without revealing the original version—unlike some other platforms that provide full edit histories. The feature is also limited to text only, meaning images attached to comments cannot be changed after publishing.

Despite its simplicity, the feature reflects a broader direction from Meta, Instagram’s parent company, toward enhancing interactive tools and responding to user feedback, as comment editing has been one of the most frequently requested features for years.

Previous reports had indicated that the feature was being tested in a limited rollout before its official launch.

In a related update, the platform also unveiled new changes affecting teenage accounts, including restrictions on certain types of content based on age ratings, amid growing pressure and criticism over the impact of digital platforms on younger users.

These steps come as Meta faces increasing legal challenges, following court rulings in the United States suggesting that some of the company’s practices may expose children to risks or encourage addictive behavior among younger users, while other cases remain under judicial review.
