At least four security personnel were killed and 26 others were injured with varying degrees of severity after a horrific traffic accident involving a bus transporting security staff on Saturday morning, near the city of Sidi Ifni on Morocco’s western coast.

In an official statement, the General Directorate of National Security said that the bus was heading to carry out a security assignment to secure a football sporting event in the city of Agadir.

The statement explained that the bus was carrying 44 employees and was involved in a traffic accident about 24 kilometers from Sidi Ifni, resulting — according to an initial toll — in the death of four security personnel and the injury of 26 others, including two employees in critical condition.

The same source added that the Director General of National Security issued immediate instructions to the Agadir security services, along with the specialized medical and social teams, to closely monitor the health condition of the injured in hospital and to ensure that all necessary care and support are provided.
