In a sudden development that sparked wide controversy within the Musicians’ Syndicate, artist Mustafa Kamel, head of the syndicate, issued a decision to reduce the penalty previously imposed on singer Donia Al-Alfi. The previous decision, issued by Dr. Alaa Salama, Deputy Council of the Syndicate, had ordered a three-month suspension and a fine of 100,000 EGP after she was accused of using inappropriate language at a wedding.
Mustafa Kamel adjusted the penalty to a two-month suspension with a fine of 50,000 EGP, in a move that created tension between him and the syndicate deputy, who expressed surprise at the change without consulting him, especially since he was outside the investigation room performing Asr prayer at the time the penalty was issued.
Crisis Details: The incident began after a video circulated on social media showing Donia Al-Alfi using words deemed offensive by the syndicate. Following the head’s instructions, she was summoned to the syndicate headquarters for investigation.
The singer appeared before the Legal Affairs Committee and the Labor Committee headed by Dr. Alaa Salama, attended by syndicate deputies, artist Ahmed Al-Eisawi, and Dr. Adel Mustafa, where the committee listened to her statements and issued the suspension and fine.
The situation escalated when Donia Al-Alfi left the investigation room in a state of collapse, revealing to journalists that she had been verbally insulted by the syndicate deputy, who described her and other female artists with "inappropriate" expressions. Several council members intervened to calm her, and she returned to the investigation with her father in front of Mustafa Kamel and the state-appointed advisor from the State Litigation Authority.
Ultimately, the head and council of the syndicate decided to retract the previous penalty, reducing it to a two-month suspension and a fine of 50,000 EGP, in an incident considered the first of its kind in the syndicate’s history, highlighting the internal conflict between the head and the deputy.
