Egyptian investigators referred TV host Amr Adib to trial, following accusations of insulting, defaming, and tarnishing the reputation of former Zamalek Club chairman Mortada Mansour.
Authorities also charged Adib with misuse of social media, after reviewing complaints filed against him in the case.
Mansour had filed an official complaint, accusing the journalist of publicly defaming him through media outlets and social platforms, in addition to deliberate insults and character attacks in violation of the law.
Investigators examined the complaints and heard statements from all parties involved, before deciding to transfer the case to the competent court after confirming that the elements of the crime were complete.
Investigation documents revealed that the submitted evidence included statements considered offensive, constituting a punishable crime of defamation, prompting the referral of the accused to trial for judicial ruling.
Amr Adib addressed the Zamalek Club land issue in his TV program in Sixth of October City, Giza, noting that the dispute had escalated beyond a simple administrative disagreement into a struggle over the club’s future and the rights of its fans to stability.
He explained that the current club board assumed responsibility at a difficult time, inheriting a “heavy legacy” full of debts and administrative and financial problems, stressing that the board is attempting to repair what the previous administration damaged and restore the club to its normal course.
Adib also directly accused Mortada Mansour of being behind the complaints that halted the land project, describing the actions as personal vendettas that sacrifice the interests of the White Castle.
