The news of the seizure of veteran actor Abdelrahman Abu Zahra’s pension and the freezing of his bank account sparked widespread anger and debate among social media users, who considered the move an unwarranted humiliation for a career that has spanned over six decades and filled screens with timeless works.

Dr. Ahmed Abu Zahra, the actor’s son, revealed on his official Facebook account that the Tax Authority had seized his father’s pension and frozen his bank account for the second time, explaining that the account contains only the monthly pension, which does not even cover a quarter of the cost of the medications his father regularly takes.

“No Delay in Paying Tax Dues” In a heartfelt post, the actor’s son wrote: “Did the state institutions find no one else but Abdelrahman Abu Zahra to target, instead of honoring him, subjecting him repeatedly to humiliating situations?” He emphasized that his father has never asked for help from any entity, and that all he wishes at this stage of his life is to live in peace and tranquility away from pressures.

Ahmed Abu Zahra stressed that his father has never been late in paying any tax dues, describing any contrary claims as clear injustice toward an artist who dedicated his life to serving Egyptian art and culture and left a lasting artistic legacy in the hearts of the audience. He explained that the seizure decision shocked the family, especially since the veteran artist has no significant wealth or large financial accounts, and his main source of income is the pension. He added that the Finance Minister contacted the family and promised to resolve the issue promptly.

He also added that this is not the first time his father’s pension has been halted. The family faced a similar crisis last May when the Pensions Authority stopped the pension based on an erroneous notification of the actor’s death from the Civil Registry, forcing the family to prove that he is still alive, while safeguarding his health and privacy due to his advanced age.
