The artistic community was shaken on Sunday morning, January 4, by the passing of screenwriter and author Hanaa Atiya, after a long battle with illness, during which she suffered from severe pneumonia and kidney problems.

Her daughter, director Gamila Wafi, announced the sad news on her Facebook page with a brief message that stunned her followers: "Mama has passed away."

Comments flooded the post, expressing grief and offering condolences, wishing mercy for the late Atiya and patience for her daughter.

Atiya graduated from the High Institute of Cinema, screenwriting department, in 1988, and her work made a significant contribution to enriching Egyptian cinema and literature.

Among her most famous films are Yom Lil-Sittat with director Kamla Abu Zikri and Khaltat Fawziya with director Magdy Ahmed Ali, through which she presented impactful female-centered narratives.

In addition to screenwriting, Hanaa Atiya left a clear mark on Egyptian literature with several novels and story collections, including Hiya wa Khadimatuhā, Unf al-Zill, and Ramadi, which were well received by both readers and critics.
