  • Child earns official chess rating
  • Defeated three rated players

Indian child Sarvagya Singh Kushwaha, aged three years, seven months, and twenty days, became the youngest player in chess history to receive an official rating from the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

Sarvagya broke the previous record held by his compatriot, Anish Sarkar, who received his rating at the age of three years, eight months, and nineteen days last November.

Kushwaha hails from the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, attends a children’s academy, and holds a rapid rating of 1,572. To earn a FIDE rating, a player must defeat at least one rated opponent.

His father, Sidhart Singh said: “It is a great source of pride for us that our son has become the youngest chess player in the world to receive an official FIDE rating. We want him to become a great chess master.”

Kushwaha managed to defeat three rated players in events within his state and other parts of the country to achieve this record-breaking milestone.

India is home to many chess legends, most notably the current world champion, Gukesh D., and five-time World Cup winner, Viswanathan Anand.
