Officials said forest guards in India have deployed drones to track wolves after nine people — most of them children — were killed in recent weeks.
The latest victim was a 10-month-old girl who was snatched by a wolf in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday while she was sleeping beside her mother; her body was later found in a field.
The day before, a five-year-old boy was taken in front of his mother outside their home; he was found with his throat slit in a sugarcane field and died while being taken to the hospital.
Officials noted that the attacks follow a pattern similar to incidents reported in a cluster of villages since last September.
This raises the number of victims of wolf attacks in Bahraich to at least nine people in three months, according to police, forest officials, and local media — including an elderly couple.
Forest official Ram Singh Yadav said authorities have deployed drones, surveillance cameras, and snipers in the area, adding: “The wolves’ behavior seems to have changed; they have recently been seen active during the day, which is unusual.”
