• Tamer Hosny undergoes partial kidney removal
• Fellow artists and fans respond with wide support online

Reactions poured in after Egyptian artist Tamer Hosny announced he had undergone a partial nephrectomy, raising concerns among his fans and questions about the reason for the surgery and whether it was related to cancer, while fellow artists flooded him with messages of support.

Dr. Khaled Montasser, a prominent physician and writer, explained that "partial nephrectomy, known as Partial Nephrectomy, targets the removal of only a portion of kidney tissue while keeping the rest intact. It may also be called (nephron-sparing surgery) as it preserves the maximum number of functioning kidney units."

He clarified on his Facebook page that the most common reason for the procedure is the presence of a small cancerous tumor in the kidney, noting that "the tumor size ranges from 4 to 7 cm in this case."

Dr. Montasser added that the surgery may also be performed for a larger tumor in a single kidney, especially if the other kidney is not fully functional, or in cases of bilateral tumors to avoid the need for dialysis.

He pointed out that some tumors may be benign but bothersome, or malignant yet not dangerous because they are "far from major blood vessels and have not infiltrated the renal pelvis," making partial removal a preventive measure to protect kidney function.

Dr. Montasser also noted that non-tumor-related factors can lead doctors to opt for partial nephrectomy, including "complications from diabetes or high blood pressure, severe rupture or localized bleeding in the kidney, or an old stone causing infections or kidney abscess."

Support messages for Tamer Hosny poured in from fellow artists on Instagram. Mohamed Ramadan wrote: "Alf salama ʿalayk ya Timo, and may God restore you stronger than before to your loved ones and family."

Mai Ezz El-Din sent a similar message: "Alf salama ʿalayk ya Tamer, may God protect you and grant you a full recovery."

Ahmed El Sakka joined the well-wishers, commenting: "Alf salama ʿalayk ya sahby.. may God reassure us about you and return you safely to your children and all your loved ones," while Mohamed Emam wrote: "Alf salama to the great star Tamer Hosny, may you come back stronger than before to your fans and loved ones."

Tamer Hosny surprised his fans with an Instagram statement saying: "I have been suffering from a kidney issue for some time, and recently required urgent surgical intervention, resulting in a partial kidney removal… Alhamdulillah for everything."

He explained that he had "preferred to remain silent and not disclose details of his deteriorating condition, but later decided to clarify for the sake of the audience and his fans and to prevent the spread of false news," expressing gratitude to all who supported and checked on him.
