Tourist falls inside narrow passage in one of the pyramids

- Spanish tourist rescued after a complex operation inside the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu in Dahshur, following a suspected leg fracture from slipping in a narrow passage
- The ambulance team carried out the rescue through an 80-meter-long narrow underground passage while ensuring the safety of both the tourist and the historical site
Egypt’s Ministry of Health announced the successful rescue of a Spanish tourist who was injured while visiting the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu in Giza
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated that an ambulance was immediately dispatched to the site upon receiving the emergency call through the hotline
He explained that the tourist suffered a suspected leg fracture after slipping inside a steep wooden passage
Abdel Ghaffar added that the ambulance team had to navigate approximately 80 meters underground through a passage no wider than one meter, under challenging conditions due to limited ventilation
The rescue operation took several hours, during which the team provided first aid at the scene, secured the tourist with a spine board and safety harness, and carefully transported her through the narrow stone passages to the pyramid’s surface
The extraction was conducted with extreme caution to prevent further injuries, after which the tourist was transferred to a hospital for further examination and treatment
Amr Rashid, head of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, described the operation as one of the most challenging rescue missions in archaeological sites, given the confined space, difficult access, and the need to preserve the historical site. He praised the medical team’s professionalism and their success in rescuing the tourist without any additional harm
