Allegations accuse Laila Eloui of assaulting a journalist with special needs "Alexandria Festival": The circulating claims are baseless

The management of the Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival issued an official statement defending the renowned actress Laila Eloui, following circulating accusations that she assaulted a journalist with special needs during her attendance at the 41st edition of the festival, which this year bore her name under the theme "Cinema in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."

The festival management emphasized its deep appreciation for Laila Eloui’s illustrious artistic career and her significant contributions to the success of the 41st edition. It urged media outlets and social media platforms to exercise accuracy and objectivity when reporting on the festival, and to refrain from publishing false information that could harm a major cinematic star or tarnish the image of this prestigious festival.

The statement clarified that the circulating allegations are baseless, noting that the accuser was not on the official media coverage list, and that his presence in a private room after the actress’s seminar constituted an unauthorized intrusion. The festival management handled the situation professionally to ensure the safety of the actress while avoiding harm to the individual, despite his lack of legal grounds to be there.

"No Legal Action Taken"

The statement affirmed that Laila Eloui, known for her refined nature and humanity, did not take any legal action against the attempted intrusion, while the festival reserves the full right to pursue legal measures against any attempts to defame the festival or the celebrated actress.

Complaint Against Laila Eloui

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution has begun investigating case number 1143/2025, Sidi Gaber Misdemeanors, following a complaint filed by journalist Raimon Al-Masri, who accused Laila Eloui of assault and bullying, including assisting another person in tampering with his mobile phone while covering festival events. The festival management strongly denies these claims, reaffirming its full respect for all participants and journalists, and its commitment to protecting the stature of the esteemed actress, one of the most prominent icons of Egyptian cinema.
