The Economic Court in Cairo decided to postpone the trial of singer Sherine Abdel-Wahab, accused of insulting and defaming the manager of her personal accounts, with the next session scheduled for October 9.

Investigative authorities had referred Sherine to criminal trial before the Economic Misdemeanors Court in Cairo, after her account manager filed a complaint against her on May 5 at the Second Sheikh Zayed Police Department, accusing her of using obscene and offensive language. This was corroborated by technical evidence, according to the investigations.

The charges were not limited to verbal insults but also included misuse of telecommunications, as the accused reportedly directed offensive language to the victim via mobile phone.

Prosecution demands punishment The Public Prosecution has requested that Sherine Abdel-Wahab be punished according to Articles 166 bis, 306, 308 bis/1, 2 of the Egyptian Penal Code, in addition to Articles 70 and 76/2 of Law No. 10 of 2003 on Telecommunications Regulation.

The plaintiff’s lawyer also requested a provisional civil compensation of 200,000 Egyptian pounds for the damages caused to his client due to the insults and defamation delivered through various means.
