The film’s lead actress, Hanan Motawie, expressed her immense joy at this participation, considering the opening ceremony a significant milestone in her artistic career.

“Very happy” She wrote on her official Instagram account: "Very happy that 'Happy Birthday' was chosen as the opening film for the eighth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival… Thank God, may He grant us success and hope you all enjoy it, God willing."

Alongside Hanan Motawie, the film stars Nelly Karim and the young actress Doha Ramadan, and it is written by Sara Johar and Mohamed Diab.

Officially chosen to represent Egypt at the Oscars The film’s success did not stop at opening the El Gouna Festival; it has also been officially nominated to represent Egypt at the Academy Awards (Oscars). Sixteen members of the Egyptian film selection committee voted for Happy Birthday from a list that included Looking for a Way Out for Mr. Rambo, I Raised My Eyes to the Sky, Al-Hawa Sultan, Di, and Snow White. The film received 9 votes, compared to 4 votes for I Raised My Eyes to the Sky, 2 votes for Looking for a Way Out for Mr. Rambo, and Snow White received only one vote.

Limited release before the international competition Happy Birthday will be released in Egyptian cinemas starting September 17, in a limited screening to meet the Oscar eligibility requirements, which mandate a public screening before September 30.
