Egyptian blogger Marwa El-Sayed, owner of the popular TikTok account “Marwa bint Mubarak”, sparked a wave of new revelations and shocked her followers with her recent statements about her childhood and family.
During investigations conducted by the Egyptian Public Prosecution, she faced charges of defamation and insult against actress Wafaa Amer, in addition to allegations of involvement in the illegal sale of organs belonging to late football player Ibrahim Sheka.
A shocking childhood and harsh treatment
Marwa claimed that she was “kidnapped as a child and subjected to harsh treatment by a strange family”. She asserted that her biological father was former president Hosni Mubarak and her mother was actress Iman El-Tohky, but that she was raised by the foster family under difficult circumstances, with constant hints that she had been “taken from the streets.”
She explained that she obtained poor grades in high school due to this harsh upbringing, and that her guardians married her off secretly after her graduation. She noted that she has been divorced since 2019 after a 10-year marriage, and has two sons, Marwan (14) and Malek (13), who currently live with their father abroad.
Wide presence on social media
Marwa revealed that she owns more than 40 social media accounts, explaining that she deliberately created multiple platforms to defend herself against those who try to harm her, especially after her recent rise to fame.
She confirmed that she was arrested in 2023 on charges of falsely claiming to be the daughter of President Mubarak, but was released after presenting documents she said proved her claims. She added that her legally registered (non-biological) father was Yousry Abdel-Hamid El-Sayed, who has since passed away, while her mother, Zeinab Mohamed Ali, is still alive.
Born in 1985 and holding a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, Marwa El-Sayed’s recent statements left her followers in shock, as the public expressed astonishment at the dramatic details of her difficult childhood and controversial personal life.
