Taher Rahim: "I will refer the matter to the relevant authorities to stop the advertisement" Taher Rahim: "The melody belongs to Mohamed Rahim and was used without his family's permission"

In a notable development that drew attention within the artistic community, Taher Rahim, brother of the late composer Mohamed Rahim, announced his intention to take legal action against singer Ehab Tawfik. This comes in response to the use of one of Mohamed Rahim’s compositions in a television commercial currently airing, without prior approval or consultation with the late musician’s family.

In a press statement, Taher Rahim said: "I will be taking legal steps to stop the advertisement, following the unauthorized use of a melody composed by Mohamed Rahim without the family's consent."

"Not the first time"

This is not the first instance in which the late composer’s family has raised concerns over the unauthorized reuse of his work. Anousa Kouta, Mohamed Rahim’s widow, previously posted a video on her Facebook page, revealing that a production company had used one of Rahim’s older melodies in a newly released song without crediting him or acknowledging the original source.

In the video, she said: "I was listening to the album and heard a song that goes, ‘Qamar qamar, I see a moon,’ and the melody felt very familiar. I instantly recognized it as one of Mohamed Rahim’s tunes, previously used in the song ‘Kelmey Masr’ with lyrics by Abdel Rahman El-Abnoudy."

She added, in a lighthearted tone: "I just wanted to say congratulations on the album, but in our own way… Mohamed Rahim was always a signature voice in music—unforgettable."
