"Nabila Ebeid Pleads: "My Apartment Is Part of Art History… Don’t Take It from Me

In an emotional response to the consequences of the Old Rent Law in Egypt, renowned Egyptian actress Nabila Ebeid issued a heartfelt plea to authorities, warning of attempts to seize her longtime apartment located on Gamaet El Dowal El Arabia Street—a space that, she says, holds not just her personal history but the collective memory of Arab cinema.
Ebeid described the apartment as a "living artistic heritage", where countless memories and milestones from her illustrious career were made.
"I have an apartment on Gamaet El Dowal… they want to take it from me! That place holds my entire life—my memories, my successes. It always brought artists together," she said emotionally.
"My fans are my real family"
Having devoted her life to the arts and never having children of her own, Ebeid expressed her desire for the apartment to be preserved as a cultural site for her fans after her passing.
"I gave my life to art… and I don’t want that apartment to be closed after I die. I want it to remain open for the people who loved me. Those who used to come there… even Abdel Halim Hafez's iconic song 'Qare’at Al-Finjan' was born in that very place!"
The apartment, which once served as a vibrant hub for some of the most iconic names of Egyptian and Arab cinema, also witnessed the creation of one of Abdel Halim Hafez’s most legendary songs.
Last screen appearance
Nabila Ebeid’s last acting role was in the 2020 Ramadan series “Sokkar Zeyada”, where she starred alongside Nadia El Gendy and the late Samiha Ayoub. Filmed in Lebanon, the series achieved wide popularity upon release.
Her impassioned plea stands as a reminder of the cultural value embedded in personal artistic spaces—and a call to protect the legacies of legendary artists from being erased under legal or bureaucratic pressures.
