Tarek El-Shennawy: "She is facing moral assassination" Yousry Nasrallah: "What’s happening is intellectual terrorism"

Egyptian actress Hend Sabry’s participation in supporting the "Steadfastness Convoy" has sparked widespread controversy on social media, placing her at the center of fierce criticism that escalated to calls for her deportation from Egypt.

In response to the backlash, several prominent artists and critics broke their silence and publicly expressed their full support for her.

Film critic Tarek El-Shennawy described what Hend is facing as a form of “moral assassination,” urging Actors Syndicate President Ashraf Zaki to step in swiftly. He wrote: “A fabricated story and a transparent ploy… all the threads will soon be revealed.”

Director Yousry Nasrallah likened the campaign against her to “intellectual terrorism,” stressing that “her love for Egypt is beyond doubt.” He added: “Anyone who knows Hend closely knows her honesty and patriotism.”

“A True Patriot”

Director Amir Ramses also voiced his support, saying: “I trust Hend Sabry’s love for Egypt just as I trust my love for her. Calling for her to return to Tunisia is as foolish as accusing her of betrayal.”

Producer Mohamed El-Adl echoed similar sentiments on Facebook, stating: “Hend Sabry is a true patriot—both Egyptian and Tunisian. No one has the right to question her loyalty.”

Amid these contrasting stances, Hend Sabry’s case emerges as a new example of the growing tension between freedom of expression and campaigns of vilification, especially when public figures take humanitarian stands.
