A 96-year-old man has been found alive and in good condition in the U.S. state of Florida after a search operation involving a police K-9 unit.

Authorities from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of the disappearance of Ray Cornett after he went missing near his home in Lutz, about 24 kilometres north of Tampa.

The man’s residence is located in a densely wooded and wetland area within a residential neighbourhood surrounded by natural forest, which initially complicated search efforts.

According to police camera footage, a tracking dog named “Boomer” arrived at the scene and was first introduced to the missing man’s belongings to pick up his scent.

After beginning the search, the dog led officers into nearby forested terrain before Cornett was discovered stuck and unable to move, roughly 91 metres from his home.

Authorities confirmed that the man was found in stable condition with no injuries and was safely returned home following the rescue operation.
