In a solemn scene overshadowed by grief, Cairo received on Tuesday evening the body of the late artist Hany Shaker, which arrived from the French capital Paris aboard an EgyptAir flight, days after his passing following a sudden health crisis that ended a decades-long artistic journey.

The body was accompanied on its final journey by his wife Nahla Tawfik and his son Sherif Shaker, along with official representatives of the Egyptian embassy in Paris. They were received at Cairo International Airport by prominent figures, including Musicians Syndicate head Mostafa Kamel, artist Nadia Mostafa, and Minister of Health Hala Zayed, in an atmosphere filled with shock and deep sorrow.

The final farewell

Upon arrival, the body was transferred to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where it will remain until the funeral prayer scheduled for Wednesday at noon at Abu Shaqqa Mosque, before being laid to rest in the family cemetery on Al-Wahat Road in 6th of October City. Condolences will be received at the same mosque on Thursday, with a large attendance expected from artists and admirers of the “Prince of Arab Singing.”

In respect for the privacy of the moment, the family stressed the importance of preserving the sanctity of the funeral. Strict organizational and security measures were put in place, along with clear instructions to refrain from photography inside the cemetery, in order to maintain the dignity of the scene.

The head of the Photographers Division explained that media coverage will follow strict regulations, including prior registration and organized movement for accredited photographers, in coordination with the organizing body, ensuring a farewell that reflects the legacy of the late artist.

Amid circulating controversy, artist Nadia Mostafa denied any restrictions on attending the funeral prayer, confirming that it will be open to all admirers of Hany Shaker, and that the announced measures are limited to organizing media coverage, in order to preserve the dignity of the occasion and honor an exceptional artistic legacy that left a lasting mark on Arab audiences.
