  • 59% say Trump lacks mental capacity and 55% question his physical fitness (Washington Post / ABC News / Ipsos poll)
  • Growing debate over his health amid physical indicators and his denial of any medical issues

Public questions are increasing in the United States over the health of U.S. President Donald Trump and his ability to continue carrying out his duties at the White House, following recent media reports and a new opinion poll that point to rising public concern.

According to the results of a poll conducted by The Washington Post and ABC News in collaboration with Ipsos, 59% of respondents believe Trump does not possess the mental capability required for the presidency, while 55% said they do not believe he has the physical fitness needed to perform his duties.

The findings represent a noticeable increase compared with a similar poll conducted last fall, when the share of those questioning his physical fitness stood at 45%.

The results come amid reports that Trump underwent a dental procedure over the weekend, during which he reportedly chose to visit his personal dentist in Florida rather than use medical facilities available at the White House.

This marks the second such visit in a matter of months, after an earlier appointment with the same dentist in January.

Trump had been in Florida attending local engagements, including a PGA Tour golf tournament at his club in Doral. He was later seen in photos alongside his son, Donald Trump Jr., where swelling in both ankles drew attention—an issue previously diagnosed last year as chronic venous insufficiency.

In recent months, other visual indicators have fueled ongoing discussion about his health, including bruising on his hands and speculation about his mental condition, particularly given his continued activity on social media.

Observers have also pointed to images showing swelling in his limbs during public appearances.

Despite the questions, Trump continues to insist he is in good health. In earlier statements, he cited his former physician Ronny Jackson as saying he was “by far the healthiest” among the last three U.S. presidents, referring to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Trump is also known for some unconventional medical choices, including reportedly taking a daily high dose of aspirin (up to 325 mg), above standard medical recommendations.

He has said the practice is intended to “thin the blood” and prevent blood clots, although it has raised medical questions.

He also addressed footage showing him closing his eyes during official meetings, saying he was simply “resting” or occasionally bored, and denied any underlying health issues.
